What to expect/FAQ
How far will the alpha 300 track?
Garmin claims up to 9 miles but under normal hunting conditions this is not a reasonable expectation. Range will be different for everyone, but most working ranges are between 1 and 3 miles when using our optional extended range antennas https://www.dusupply.com/dog-tracking/garmin-alpha-astro-gps-tracking-systems/antennas.html
Should I have a backup battery?
While the Garmin alpha 300 has almost 3 times the battery life of the Garmin Alpha 200, it is always a good idea to have a backup. However, the improved battery life of the Alpha 300 will normally be very sufficient for a single day hunt.
Will I need any special cables to charge the Alpha 300?
The Garmin Alpha 300 will come with a new and improved usb-c charging cable. This is a huge improvement over the usb charging ports of the Garmin Alpha 100 and Alpha 200 which used different USB connectors.
Are the maps any better on the Garmin Alpha 300 compared to the Garmin Alpha 200?
Map loading speed has increased with the new Alpha 300 resulting in less frustration when zooming the maps in and out. In addition, the Garmin Alpha 300 allows you to subscribe to “Outdoor Maps +”. With an Outdoor Maps+ subscription, you have access to a wide variety of premium mapping content that is regularly updated and wirelessly delivered directly to your Alpha® 300 handheld when connected to a wireless network.
Is the Alpha 300/300i right for me? Should I upgrade?
The Alpha 300/300i has some features that are not available on the Alpha 200i, such as a faster map loading time, the ability to add items to a shortcut, and the option to use a drag and drop screen menu setup. This is a much more user-friendly interface and similar to a smartphone's operation than previous models of the Alpha series Track and Train units.
