One thing that never made sense to me in the hound hunting world is the race to be the first on every road on the mountain.
It seems funny to me because I have seen others who won't cut roads that others have been down. The thought process must be, "Well, if they didn't rig anything here then there's probably nothing."
You may not like me for saying this, but you never know what kind of dogs the other guy/girl has. We all believe our dogs are great + we also have our own insecurities about what our dogs might rig.
For hell sakes every animal on that mountain smells a little different... we've been on a trash race or two!
But here's the thing, we went out hunting this summer and we drove down the road once, turned around and we're headed back. We ran into another Houndsmen on the road and chatted with him for a bit and then continued on our merry way down as he continued up.

Well, about 400 yards from where we stopped to chat, we rigged hard, turned dogs out, and had that bear caught within 100 yards of the truck.
Bears move at different times and you never know when you might drive past and they are just hanging out and then the wind might shift just enough to send that sweet, sweet scent right into your dog's nose.
We love to talk to other Houndsmen in the hills + make a game plan for the morning. We understand the value of a good bear race for your dogs, but what about Sportsmanship?
We can all help each other out there and we can all drive the same dang road multiple times before finally getting lucky. All the animals decide to move on their time and we have no way to predict it.
So, before you get all butt hurt that someone beat you to the road you wanted to cut, wait a few and try again because you never know when you'll hit the right place at the just the right time.
So does it matter if you win? We don't think so.
Take the fam out, have a good time and we will see you on the mountain!
