Your Garmin Alpha 100 and Alpha 200i will automatically keep a stored log of all recorded tracks. While pressing the "Start New Hunt" option on your main menu will wipe all previous tracks from your map screen and begin anew, they are not deleted entirely. Previous hunts are stored in the Alpha's internal memory for future reference until a user removes them manually. In this help topic, we will explore the fastest and most convenient way to clear your unit of old or unwanted archived tracks that may be slowing down your unit and affecting its performance.

Too many archived tracks will bog down the memory of your unit over time causing performance issues such as longer load times and random shutoffs (crashes)

One way to delete archived tracks is by going to your "Setup" menu from your main screen, selecting the "Track Manager", and deleting your archived tracks one by one. It is important to clear unimportant and unused tracks from time to time, as too many recorded hunts over a long period of time will slowly fill an Alpha unit's internal memory to capacity, and cause the unit to perform poorly, or even crash and become practically unusable. This is especially common in the first Alpha 100 units that have a 4 GB storage space as opposed to the 8 GB storage space of later Alpha 100 units and massive 16 GB internal memory of their 200i descendants.

To quickly clear vast amounts of stored tracks, we'll need to plug the unit in and visit your Alpha's internal storage. If you are not comfortable deleting and moving files with a PC, you may wish to delete tracks using BaseCamp, or manually using your handheld, as deleting program files can be disastrous for your unit.

Once your unit is in File Transfer mode, select the correct folder by going into File Explorer, then Alpha 200i > Internal Storage > Garmin > Activities

All of your archived tracks will be dated and stored in this folder. If you have lots of archived tracks you'd like to get rid of, simply highlight and delete them. This will remove them from your unit, and send them to your PC's Recycle Bin for permanent disposal.

This can easily be done in an Alpha 100 unit as well. Plug your unit into a PC just as you would a 200i, and in the unit's internal storage, navigate to Garmin > GPX > Archive.

This containing folder will hold all of your Alpha 100's archived tracks, which can then be quickly and conveniently removed in the same manner.

Additionally, waypoints and tracks can also be managed, deleted, stored, and moved safely between units using Garmin's free BaseCamp program.
